The objective of this two-and-a-half day course is to provide an overview of the planning, design, development and related management issues of modern airports as effective and efficient inter-modal transportation facilities. Participants will be introduced to current trends in the air transportation industry as these impact on air travel demand and the requirement for airport facilities and services.

Aviation demand forecasting techniques will be examined in detail, as will the distillation of these forecasts into meaningful plannng day and peak hour traffic estimates. Hands on experience with current faciltiy planning software will be provided. Optimization of facility resources (e.g. gate assignment) and an emphasis on ensuring flexibility in planning future airport facilities will make this course of interest to airport operations specialists as well as facility planners. A central focus of the course will be airfield (runways and taxiways) and terminal building design and requirements programming.
